Researchers discovered evidence that humans lived on the Tibetan Plateau during the coldest period of the past 2.5 million years. Wenli Li's team from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences found artifacts at Pengbuwuqing, a site in the Yarlung Tsangpo River Valley. Radiocarbon dating confirmed human occupation between 29,200 and 23,100 years ago, including the Last Glacial Maximum. Findings suggest the valley provided crucial resources for survival. Stone tools and ochre were also uncovered. The study, reported by New Scientist, highlights early humans’ adaptability to extreme climates. Further research will explore migration patterns.
