Uyghur and Tibetan activists have welcomed Marco Rubio's nomination as U.S. Secretary of State by President-elect Donald Trump, citing his strong human rights record on China. According to Radio Free Asia (RFA), Rubio, sanctioned by Beijing for his advocacy, co-authored laws addressing Uyghur forced labor and supported Tibet's autonomy. Rushan Abbas of the World Uyghur Congress praised his leadership against the Uyghur genocide, while Tibetan envoy Namgyal Choedup highlighted Rubio's role in acts protecting Tibet's cultural and spiritual rights. Activists hope Rubio’s tenure will strengthen U.S. efforts to counter China's oppression and enforce accountability.
