USCIRF Accuses China of Cultural Genocide in Tibet

The 2025 annual report by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) accuses China of “cultural genocide” against Tibetan Buddhists. According to the report, Chinese authorities suppress religious practices, close monastic schools, and force Tibetan children into colonial boarding schools. Surveillance and threats target the Tibetan diaspora, while displaying images of the Dalai Lama can lead to arrest. USCIRF highlights continued U.S. support for Tibet, urging stronger international pressure on China and recommending the appointment of a Special Coordinator on Tibetan Issues to enhance religious freedom efforts.
