UK Jails Two Men for Spying on Hong Kong Dissidents

A former UK Border Force officer and his handler were jailed on June 18, 2026, for spying on Hong Kong pro-democracy activists in Britain on behalf of Chinese intelligence. Chi Leung “Peter” Wai received 10 years, while Chung Biu “Bill” Yuen was sentenced to eight years under the National Security Act. Wai used Home Office databases to locate people and obtain personal information for his contacts. Prosecutors said the pair conducted unauthorized surveillance of dissidents, including activists carrying HK$1 million bounties issued by Hong Kong authorities. The Hong Kong government rejected the allegations as unfounded and denied official involvement.
