Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, has made a significant appeal to China for the reopening of 14 traditional border points with the Tibetan Autonomous Region. This request aims to boost bilateral trade and facilitate the movement of people between the two regions.

During his first official visit to China since assuming office, Shrestha highlighted this need in a meeting with Wang Junzheng, a top official of the Communist Party of China in Tibet.

The visit, which took place in Lhasa from March 25 to April 1, was part of Shrestha’s efforts to strengthen the relationship between Nepal and China.

According to a press release from the Consulate General of Nepal in Lhasa, as reported by The Tribune, Shrestha emphasized the importance of these border points for enhancing trade, commerce, and the exchange of cultures between the neighboring countries.
