German Parliamentary State Secretary Michael Brand urged China to repeal its new Ethnic Unity Law, warning that it threatens Tibetan culture and other historic peoples. In a video statement reported from Geneva on July 1, 2026, Brand called the law a racist measure rooted in Han Chinese extremism and said the world must not stay silent as it targets Tibetan, Uyghur, and other communities. He said the law could become a model for other governments if left unchallenged. Representative Thinlay Chukki welcomed the statement and urged governments to defend Tibetan identity, language, and culture.
