Canada has announced a 100% tariff on Chinese-made electric vehicles, aligning with U.S. actions against what Western nations describe as unfair Chinese subsidies. This move, encouraged by U.S. national security advisor Jake Sullivan, coincides with his upcoming visit to Beijing. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that Canada will also impose a 25% tariff on Chinese steel and aluminum. The Chinese Embassy criticized the decision, calling it trade protectionism. Experts predict potential Chinese retaliation affecting other Canadian exports like barley and pork. According to Trudeau, these measures are necessary to protect domestic industries.
