A Tibetan monk, Jampa Choepel, was sentenced to one and a half years in prison after a secret trial in August, according to Tibet Watch. Arrested in March at Penkarthang Monastery in Rebkong, Choepel had shared a WeChat post about the Dalai Lama on Tibetan Uprising Day. Before his trial, he was held in detention for six months. Authorities recently transferred him to a prison in Xining City. His family has been denied visits and remains under strict surveillance. Jampa Choepel, a teacher of calligraphy and English, has been under police watch since returning to Tibet in 1996.
