Losel, a 38-year-old Tibetan monk from Sera Thekchen Ling Monastery, died in a Chinese prison following severe beatings and reported medical neglect, according to Tibet Times. Arrested in May 2024 for suspected communication with outsiders, Losel's condition deteriorated under alleged mistreatment. Authorities reportedly withheld his location from family until October 21, when his body was returned to relatives in Lhasa. Losel’s death highlights ongoing concerns about the treatment of detained Tibetans and the restrictions on information-sharing within the region. The monk had been ordained since childhood and was from Tsotoe Village near Lhasa.
