His Holiness the Dalai Lama's 89th birthday was celebrated without incident in Kathmandu on July 6. The event, held at Hyolmo Monastery near Boudha Stupa, saw attendance from senior diplomats and officials from the EU, Australia, Switzerland, France, and the US. Notable guests included Sabchu Rinpoché and CTA's Tsepri Lopan Tulku Ngawang Chokdup. Prominent Nepalese human rights groups and activists also joined the gathering of over 2000 people. The celebrations spanned two days with Tibetan opera and cultural performances. Despite this, Nepal still restricts weekly Tibetan gatherings.
