Chinese authorities have transferred over 200 Tibetan monastic students from Lhamo Kirti Monastery in Sichuan to state-run boarding schools, according to sources speaking to Radio Free Asia. This follows the July closure of the Buddhist school, which originally impacted around 600 students. Activists argue the move aims to control Tibetan Buddhist education and assimilate Tibetan youth into Chinese culture. Tibetans oppose these "colonial-style" schools, which separate children from their families and promote loyalty to the Communist Party. The monastery's school, established in 1986, is now empty after the transfers.
