China has lodged a "serious protest" with the U.S. after a top Biden administration official, Uzra Zeya, met with His Holiness the Dalai Lama in New York. Zeya, the U.S. Under Secretary of State and Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues, reaffirmed America's commitment to supporting Tibetan human rights and cultural preservation. China’s Foreign Ministry criticized His Holiness the Dalai Lama and rejected any official contact with him. This comes as His Holiness, 89, recovers from knee surgery and follows recent U.S. legislation supporting dialogue between China and Tibet.
