China has expanded its visa-free transit policy, allowing travelers from 54 countries, including the U.S., U.K., and Canada, to stay up to 10 days (240 hours), up from 72-144 hours. According to TOI, the program covers 60 ports across 24 provinces, enhancing access to regions like Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang. This move aligns with China’s broader strategy to revive inbound tourism after reopening its borders in 2023. Foreign visitor arrivals surged by 48.8% year-over-year in Q3 2024. Additional steps include reinstating multiple-entry visas for Shenzhen residents visiting Hong Kong and streamlining travel procedures to boost tourism and business.
