Chinese authorities detained Tibetan language rights activist Tashi Wangchuk for 15 days from Oct. 20 to Nov. 4, citing alleged slander against the government, reported Tibet Times on Nov. 11. Wangchuk, previously imprisoned for five years following his New York Times-publicized advocacy for Tibetan language preservation, resumed his activism upon his 2021 release. Recently, he posted documents online detailing accusations of “distorted claims” and “social disorder” tied to his critiques of government language policies. Authorities have warned Wangchuk against political involvement, continuing to monitor his movements since his initial 2016 arrest for separatism.
