As part of an initiative by the Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration, Positive Parenting workshops are underway in South India, aiming to equip parents with proactive parenting techniques. The first of these series of workshops, which span from 21st to 30th August 2023, began in Bylakuppe on Monday.

Ms. Tsering Yangkyi, representative from the Department of Education, inaugurated the session, shedding light on the workshop’s objectives and its relevance to the Tibetan community. Over the course of these workshops, parents from eight STSS schools and one TCV school across regions, including Bylakuppe, Gurupura, Kollegal, and Mundgod, will receive hands-on guidance. Manjushri Educational Services, known for its expertise in the domain, is leading these sessions.

The prime focus is to empower parents with knowledge and tools to practice positive parenting. Key areas addressed include modeling constructive behaviors, understanding and validating a child’s emotions, fostering a passion for reading, and navigating the challenges of screen time in the digital age. To further the cause, each participating parent will be provided with a Positive Parenting Skill Booklet, alongside select children’s literature to encourage bonding and intellectual growth at home.

It’s worth noting that this initiative is not a first of its kind. Earlier in June this year, similar workshops were organized, benefiting parents in Manali and Ladakh. These sessions witnessed an impressive turnout of 243 parents, a testament to the community’s commitment to nurturing the next generation.

The initiative, championed by the Department of Education, has received commendable support from Global Affairs Canada and has been made possible through the generous backing of Alinea International.
