A recent study published in the Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering reports a surge in mass wasting events in Tibet's Sedongpu Gully since 2017. Researchers from Chengdu University attribute this increase to rapid warming and frequent earthquakes, leading to massive debris flow into the Yarlung Tsangpo River. This escalation poses significant flood and erosion risks for downstream regions in India's Northeast and Bangladesh, especially with existing and proposed large-scale hydropower projects potentially exacerbating the situation.
