In response to the devastating earthquake that struck the Noto peninsula in northwestern Japan, Tibet House Japan and the Tibetan Community in Japan organized a prayer gathering in Tokyo. This event, as reported by Tibet.net, aimed to offer support and prayers for those affected by the 7.6 magnitude earthquake on New Year’s Day.

Dr. Tsewang Gyalpo Arya, the Representative, expressed deep sympathy and solidarity with the Japanese community on behalf of the Tibetan people. He relayed that His Holiness the Dalai Lama, along with Sangha members and pilgrims in Bodhgaya, India, had offered prayers for the earthquake victims.

During the gathering, Dr. Arya read a message from His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, conveying condolences to the families and others impacted by the disaster. This message of support was delivered to the Prime Minister’s office through the Japan Parliamentary Support Group for Tibet. Additionally, Dr. Arya mentioned a condolence message from the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) based in India.

The prayer gathering, which included Tibetans, Japanese, and Chinese participants, was led by Rev. Geshe Sonam Gyaltsan Gonta of Potala College. The assembly engaged in various hymns and prayers, including the Heart Sutra and Zangchoe Monlam, along with mantra recitations.

Japanese attendees expressed gratitude to Tibet House and the Tibetan Community for their solidarity and sympathy. They also showed great respect and appreciation for the message and prayers from His Holiness the Dalai Lama, emphasizing the significance of his spiritual support during this time of tragedy.

The prayer gathering not only symbolized the Tibetan community’s support for Japan but also highlighted the universal compassion and solidarity shared across nations during times of hardship.
