Groundbreaking Study Reveals Tibetan Diaspora’s Struggles

The Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) has released a new report, ‘Chinese Transnational Repression of Tibetan Diaspora Communities.’ It shows how China‘s actions are causing fear and weakening Tibetans living abroad. This report is the first to deeply look into the issue, highlighting a problem that often doesn’t get enough attention.

China’s Tactics to Control Tibetans Abroad

The report explains that China reaches beyond its borders to quiet Tibetans who have moved away. It uses methods like spying and threats to control them. These actions make exiled Tibetans scared to speak up or keep in touch with their culture.

Effects on Tibetans Living Overseas

The study points out China‘s efforts to stop exiled Tibetans from talking to their families in Tibet. It also shows how China tries to break into and weaken Tibetan groups outside the country. This not only hurts their mental health but also their ability to make a living.

Call for Global Action

Tenzin Dawa, TCHRD‘s executive director, calls for worldwide support to protect Tibetans from such pressure. She says, “The international community must provide concrete protections to specific populations, including Tibetan diaspora communities that experience persecution and are targeted for transnational repression.” Dawa urges countries to take steps like sanctions and travel bans against those behind the repression.
