Sikkim MP Urges Govt to Call It Indo-Tibet, Not Indo-China Border

Rajya Sabha MP Dorjee Tshering Lepcha has urged the Indian government to officially refer to Sikkim’s 1,200-kilometre border as the “Indo-Tibet border” rather than “Indo-China border.” Speaking in Machong village, he said central agencies like the Army and BRO should use the correct term. Lepcha reiterated this appeal during the 2024 monsoon session of Parliament. He also referenced Arunachal CM Pema Khandu’s recent remarks supporting the same position. Both leaders argue that India shares its border with Tibet, not China, due to China’s occupation of the Tibetan plateau since 1950.
