The Office of Tibet in Washington DC and the Northwest Tibetan Cultural Association (NWTCA) are set to host a special training workshop for Tibetan weekend school teachers and staff. Scheduled for April 12-14, 2024, the workshop will take place at the Northwest Tibetan Cultural Center on the West Coast, as reported by Tibet.net.

This important educational event follows a resolution from the 21st North American Tibetan Association’s conference held last year in Toronto. The workshop aims to provide valuable training in Social, Emotional, and Ethical (SEE) Learning, a program inspired by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama‘s vision of fostering compassion and ethical understanding across the globe.

The training will feature three esteemed speakers: Geshe Lobsang Tenzin Negi from Emory University, Tsondue Samphel, Assistant Director of Education at the Center for Compassionate and Responsible Social Actions, and researcher Tenzin Sonam. They will provide expertise and insights to enhance the teaching strategies of the attendees.

Approximately 50 participants, including teachers, staff, and parents from various weekend schools, are expected to attend. The Mayor of Camas, Steve Hogan, will also be present to inaugurate the workshop, highlighting its significance to the community.

In recognition of the program’s broad relevance, the entire three-day event will be streamed live on YouTube at 8:15 AM (EST), allowing an even wider audience to benefit from the sessions.

The Office of Tibet-Washington DC and the Northwest Tibetan Cultural Association have expressed their gratitude towards the weekend school teachers for their dedication and commitment to Tibetan education. This workshop is supported by The Tibet Fund, which continues to assist in the cultural and educational efforts of the Tibetan community in North America.
