Rare anti-CCP banners in Beijing call for political reform

A rare protest in Beijing’s Sanlitun district displayed two large banners condemning the Chinese Communist Party and calling for political freedom, pluralism, and rule of law. Security personnel quickly removed the banners, and reports suggest the person responsible has been arrested. The slogans denounced the Party as “an anti-human evil cult” and urged an end to the Party ban. The protest echoes earlier acts of solitary dissent, including Peng Lifa’s 2022 Sitong Bridge protest and a similar 2024 banner in Hunan. Such acts remain rare in Chinese-occupied territories, where free speech and assembly are tightly restricted.
