Pro-Democracy Banners Hung in Chengdu Reflect Ongoing Public Discontent

On April 15, 2025, three large banners calling for political reform and democracy were hung from a bridge near Chengdu’s Chadianzi Bus Station.The slogans included “Without political system reform, there will be no national rejuvenation” and “Democracy is the direction.”The protester, who had prepared for over a year, shared images with citizen journalist Li Ying before becoming unreachable.According to Radio Free Asia, this act echoes the 2022 Sitong Bridge protest by Peng Lifa.Rights activists view such actions as expressions of persistent public dissatisfaction under China's one-party rule.
