Meta has removed 18 fake Facebook accounts linked to a Chinese influence campaign aimed at discrediting the Dalai Lama. According to its Q4 2024 Adversarial Threat Report, Meta also took down two pages, four groups, and five Instagram accounts. The accounts, originating in China, targeted the Tibetan exile community in India, Nepal, and Bhutan. They used proxy IPs to disguise their locations. Many were detected and disabled by automated systems before the investigation. The campaign also spread misinformation across platforms like X and Blogspot, Meta reported.
