Mental Health Training for Votunteers in Southern Tibetan Settlements

On 16 July 2024, the Department of Health held a mental health training session for 15 volunteer champions from Southern Settlements at Bylakuppe Settlement. Expert trainers from Sangath led the session, focusing on identifying and supporting individuals with mental health challenges and reducing stigma in the community. The training covered mental health fundamentals, empathy, active listening, and appropriate referrals, emphasizing the limits of volunteer roles. Activities included discussions, role-playing, and outreach planning. Participants praised the quality and suggested more specific training and follow-ups to sustain efforts.
