India introduces national curriculum for Buddhist monasteries near border

India will this month introduce a national curriculum in Buddhist monasteries along its Himalayan border to unify education and reduce China’s influence, reported Reuters. The new programme seeks to foster Indian identity among students in some 600 monasteries across Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Sikkim, and other northern regions. It will integrate modern subjects with monastic education and be officially certified. A five-year government assessment led to the initiative, which has already been adopted by 20 monasteries. Officials say the goal is to ensure Tibetan and Indian students can pursue academic and professional futures within India.
