A pivotal conference on Tibet-Mongol relations has begun, hosted at the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, as reported by Tibet.net. The event, organized by the Tibet Policy Institute (TPI) in collaboration with Mongolia’s Diluv Hutugthu Foundation and the Moscow-based Tibet Culture Centre, aims to delve into the history, challenges, and future of the ties between Tibet and Mongolia since the 20th century.

During the opening ceremony, TPI Director Dawa Tsering welcomed the participants and highlighted the conference’s significance as a first-of-its-kind formal dialogue between the Central Tibetan Administration and Mongolian experts. He thanked Representative Telo Rinpoche for his crucial role in bringing together scholars for this landmark event.

Representative Telo Rinpoche, in his keynote speech, stressed the importance of rejuvenating the historical relationship between Tibet and Mongolia. He shared insights into the experiences of Mongolian-origin communities and the parallels with Tibetan struggles, underscoring the need for renewed connections in the modern era.

The two-day conference features a range of topics, from the early 20th-century dynamics between Mongolia and Tibet under Qing Dynasty control to the independence movements and religious affiliations that have shaped the regions’ histories. Discussions will also cover the influence of Mongolian scholars in Tibetan monasteries and the significant visits of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Mongolia, highlighting the deep cultural and religious bonds between the two.

This forum marks a significant step in exploring and strengthening the ties between Tibet and Mongolia, offering insights into their shared heritage and discussing ways to navigate contemporary challenges together.
