France has expelled the top official and his deputy from the Chinese intelligence agency, the Ministry of State Security, following an attempt to forcibly repatriate a Chinese dissident. The move, confirmed by the French Foreign Ministry, aimed to avoid diplomatic conflict with Beijing. In March, French border police thwarted the kidnapping of 26-year-old dissident Ling Huazhan at Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport. The expelled officials were found to have orchestrated the attempt, despite claiming it was a misunderstanding.
