At least eight monasteries and nunneries in southern Tibet were heavily damaged by a 7.1-magnitude earthquake, reports Radio Free Asia. Among the affected are historic sites like Dzekar Choede, Tsonga, and Tsogo Monasteries in Dingri County. Precious relics and statues were destroyed, and two nuns tragically died at Dzongtuk Nunnery. Over 40 religious sites sustained damage, with some monasteries entirely destroyed. Chinese state media confirmed cultural heritage teams are assessing the destruction in Dingri, Lhatse, and Sakya counties. The findings will be submitted to the National Cultural Heritage Administration. Information sharing remains restricted by Chinese authorities.
