Dorjee Tashi, a prominent Tibetan businessman and philanthropist serving a life sentence in Lhasa's Drapchi Prison, has been subjected to repeated assaults by fellow inmates, according to the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT). Recent incidents in April 2021 and April 2025 have left him with physical injuries, yet prison authorities have reportedly used these attacks as a pretext to deny him family visits and legal counsel, citing "misconduct." Legal experts have long criticized his 2010 conviction for "loan fraud" as politically motivated and legally flawed. ICT has called for his immediate release and an independent investigation into the prison violence and denial of medical care.
