In Dharamshala, the Department of Information and International Relations of the Central Tibetan Administration (DIIR-CTA) recently held a training program titled ‘Tibet Advocacy Training and Youth Capacity Building’.

This event, part of the V-TAG initiative, aimed to empower North Indian V-TAG members with advanced skills in advocacy, communication, and presentation. The training took place at the Lemon Tree Hotel from January 26 to 29, 2024, as reported by Tibet.net.

On the second day of the program, DIIR Secretary Karma Choeying addressed the participants as the chief guest. He highlighted the critical role of the younger generation in continuing the Tibetan freedom movement, given the gradual decrease of older Tibetan generations in exile.

Choeying urged the attendees to deepen their knowledge of Tibetan history, the current political situation in Tibet, and the challenges faced by Tibetans both within Tibet and globally, enhancing their advocacy efforts.

The Secretary also emphasized the importance of recognizing and remembering the significant contributions of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in establishing the unique exile Tibetan community and advancing the Tibetan freedom cause.

Following Choeying’s speech, a panel discussion took place, featuring leaders from various Tibetan NGOs. The panel included Gonpo Dhondup, President of the Tibetan Youth Congress; Wangden Kyab, a researcher at Tibet Watch; Tsering Dolma, Vice President of the Tibetan Women’s Association; and Tenzing Passang, the India National Director of Students for Free Tibet.

The discussion, moderated by Tenzing Dhamdul from the Foundation for Non-Violent Alternatives (FNVA), offered diverse perspectives on Tibet‘s advocacy and the role of the youth in this movement.

This training program underscores the ongoing efforts to engage and educate young Tibetans in the diaspora, equipping them with the necessary tools to effectively advocate for Tibet‘s cause.

The emphasis on youth involvement reflects a strategic approach to sustaining and revitalizing the Tibetan freedom movement for future generations.
