In June 2023, the Lhasa Chengguan District People’s Court rejected a lawsuit filed by Tibetan rights activist Gonpo Kyi against the Lhasa Public Security Bureau. Kyi, the sister of Tibetan entrepreneur Dorje Tashi, who is serving a life sentence, had been detained for 10 days in December 2022 after peacefully petitioning for her brother's release. She sought to overturn this punishment and demanded compensation for her detention and the return of confiscated protest materials.

According to Tibet.net, the court upheld the decision, stating Kyi "disrupted the order of the unit," justifying the security bureau’s actions. The court also denied her claims for compensation and the return of her personal items.

Kyi and her husband have been staging peaceful protests demanding a retrial and visitation rights for Dorje Tashi, who has been imprisoned since 2008. Despite ongoing appeals, authorities continue to block their efforts to seek justice.
