In a significant intensification of its Sinicization drive, China transferred a record 10,500 Tibetan students to mainland boarding schools in 2025. Official data indicates these students, largely from rural and nomadic backgrounds, are now enrolled in segregated "Tibet Classes" across 23 provinces. Critics, including former CTA officials, argue this state-sponsored program aims to sever high-achieving youth from their cultural and religious roots under the guise of education. Since the policy's inception in 1984, over 180,000 Tibetan children have been relocated, a task Beijing describes as a critical "political responsibility."
