China Intensifies Repression in Tibet on Uprising Anniversary

According to Tibet Post, Chinese authorities escalated repression in Tibet during the 66th anniversary of Tibetan Uprising Day. Tibetans were confined to their homes, with armed forces patrolling Lhasa and other regions to prevent protests. Monasteries faced strict surveillance, fearing monk-led demonstrations. Despite heavy restrictions, 157 Tibetans, mostly monks, protested against Chinese rule, demanding freedom and the Dalai Lama’s return. Meanwhile, Tibetans worldwide commemorated the anniversary in over 60 cities. Tibet has endured decades of political repression, cultural suppression, and military occupation since China’s 1949 invasion.
