China Expels 1,000 Monks, Nuns From Larung Gar

Chinese authorities have expelled over 1,000 monks and nuns from Larung Gar in Serta County, citing lack of legal documentation. According to Tibet Times' sources, the expelled monastics were ordered to leave after investigations by officials and police. Restrictions on visitors, including a ban on mobile phones, have also been imposed. Reports indicate that authorities plan to demolish monastic residences under the pretext of highway construction. Surveillance has intensified, with aerial monitoring and over 400 officials stationed in the area. Additionally, new rules will limit monastic residence to 15 years.
