China Detains Tibetan Educator, Forces Vocational School Closure

Chinese authorities have detained prominent Tibetan educator Chogtrul Dorje Tenzin and forced the closure of his Minthang Ethnic Vocational School in Golog. Detained on December 4, his whereabouts remain unknown with no official reason provided for the arrest. The school was one of the few institutions offering comprehensive Tibetan language education and had faced long-standing government suspicion due to its cultural emphasis. Following the closure, students were sent home and are reportedly being pressured to transfer to state-run boarding schools. This move aligns with Beijing’s broader assimilationist policies targeting Tibetan cultural and linguistic identity.
