China is constructing 90 new villages along its side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) near Arunachal Pradesh, reports The Tribune. These settlements are part of China’s “Xiaokang” or “prosperous villages” project, which strengthens its territorial claims and military presence. So far, China has built 628 such villages. Additionally, Beijing is upgrading infrastructure at a key border crossing between Tibet and Nepal’s Mustang region, a route often used by Tibetan refugees. Experts believe China is using these villages to reinforce its legal position under the 2005 Border Defence Cooperation Agreement with India.
