India is closely monitoring China’s plan to build a mega dam on the lower Yarlung Tsangpo in Tibet, the environment ministry informed Rajya Sabha. Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh stated that the government tracks all developments on the Brahmaputra and raises concerns with China through diplomatic channels. India has urged China to ensure downstream interests are protected. Meanwhile, NHPC’s Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project is set for phased commissioning in 2025-26, with costs revised to ₹26,075.54 crore. Separately, the environment ministry approved Sikkim Urja’s Teesta project resumption after flood damage.
