New Delhi: A delegation from the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, led by Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang and comprising MPs Tenpa Yarphel, Geshe Lharampa Gowo Lobsang Phende, and Tsaneytsang Dhondup Tashi, launched a focused advocacy campaign in Delhi, coinciding with the winter session of the Indian Parliament.

The delegation’s itinerary included meetings with influential figures such as Shri Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities, and members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. They also visited significant sites like the National Police Memorial and the National War Memorial.

Key discussions revolved around acknowledging Tibet‘s historical sovereignty and addressing China’s repressive policies, including environmental exploitation and human rights violations in Tibet. The delegation highlighted the importance of recognizing Tibet as an occupied nation and refuted China’s narrative that labels Tibetans as a minority and Tibet’s occupation as an internal matter of Beijing.

On the second day, the delegation met with Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju, MPs from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and other dignitaries. They emphasized the need for scientific research on China’s environmental policies in Tibet and advocated for the unconditional release of all Tibetan political prisoners.

The fourth day saw the delegation engaging with Delhi Legislative Assembly members, emphasizing the significance of Tibet’s rivers to Asia and particularly to Indian states in the north and north-east. A dinner hosted for MPs from these regions furthered discussions on water-related issues and the impact of China’s actions on these vital resources.

The final day included meetings with MPs from various committees, where the Tibetan MPs reiterated their concerns about Tibet and sought support for their cause. The delegation also participated in a talk organized by the Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch, discussing the Sino-Tibetan conflict and the importance of the Tibetan plateau.

The five-day advocacy tour was a strategic effort to raise awareness and garner support for Tibet’s cause, highlighting the critical issues faced by Tibetans under Chinese rule and seeking international support to address these challenges.
