The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile completed its sixth session of the 17th term on March 16, 2024, in Dharamshala, with Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel leading the final day’s proceedings. This session marked a period of active discussions and report examinations by the parliament members.

Key discussions kicked off with a question from parliamentarian Geshe Atong Rinchen Gyaltsen to Sikyong Penpa Tsering, who provided detailed answers to this and other supplementary questions from fellow parliamentarians, as reported by Tibet.net.

One of the session’s highlights was the review of the Department of International Relations (DIIR)’s 2022-2023 annual report. DIIR Kalon Norzin Dolma initially presented the report, followed by an in-depth review by parliamentarian Phurpa Dorjee Gyaldhong and further debates on the report’s contents and DIIR’s various activities.

Parliamentarians engaged in discussions covering a wide range of topics, including the functionality of official Tibetan websites, the Middle Way Approach workshops, Tibet advocacy programs, and the operations of the Offices of Tibet. Each question was addressed by DIIR Kalon, highlighting the ongoing efforts to support the Tibetan cause.

The session also shed light on the Department of Health’s (DoHe) annual activities through a report presented by Sikyong Penpa Tsering, followed by a review from parliamentarian Tsering Lhamo. The subsequent debate focused on DoHe’s report and related matters, with the DoHe Kalon responding to queries from the parliament members.

The Secretary-General of the Parliamentary Secretariat, Sonam Dorjee, announced the leave of absences before Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel delivered his closing speech. He marked the end of the session, which concluded at 7:30 pm, as noted by Tibet.net.

This parliamentary session underscored the Tibetan government-in-exile’s commitment to transparency, dialogue, and the advancement of Tibetan issues on the international stage. The detailed discussions and reports reflect an ongoing dedication to the well-being and rights of Tibetans, both within the exile community and in Tibet.
