In a recent event that has caught the attention of international observers, a Tibetan monk named Pema was arrested by Chinese authorities during a non-violent demonstration in Ngaba county.

The incident, as reported by the Tibet Times, occurred on the 26th of March, 2024, when Pema, affiliated with the Ngaba Kirti monastery, took to ‘Martyr’s Road’ holding a large picture of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and vocalizing his protest against Chinese rule in Tibet.

Following the peaceful protest, it was reported that an immediate and significant increase in military presence was observed in both Ngaba town and the vicinity of Kirti monastery. This move by the authorities has led to heightened restrictions for local residents, raising concerns about the freedom and safety of the community.

Pema, who originates from Surima village within Ngaba county, is known for his studies in Buddhist philosophy at Kirti Monastery, where he also contributes as a teacher.

Despite his peaceful approach to protest, details regarding his current condition or location remain unclear, as neither family background information nor the specific slogans he shouted during his protest have been disclosed.
