Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh – A special “Tibet Awareness Program” was recently held at the Buddha Degree PG College in Kushinagar. The event, a significant collaboration between the India Tibet Coordination Office (ITCO), Bharat Tibbat Samvad Manch (BTSM), and Buddha Degree College, took place on 16 October 2023. According to Tibet.net, the program aimed to spread awareness about the historical ties and current challenges between India and Tibet.

The event saw an impressive lineup of guests, including former MLA Shri Rajnikant Mani Tripathi, who emphasised the spiritual and linguistic ties India shares with Tibet. Speaking to the gathering, he expressed optimism about Tibet‘s future, stating, “One day Tibetan people will have a day when they are able to go back to Tibet and reunite with Tibetan in Tibet. Tibet will regain its independence one day and it’s just a matter of time.” His words, as reported by Tibet.net, were particularly stirring for the young audience.

Another notable speaker, Shri Surendra Kumar, the National Co-Convener of Core Group for Tibetan Cause- India (CGTC-I), shed light on the ancient India-Tibet relations and highlighted the illegal occupation of Tibet by China. Kumar emphasised the importance of India supporting Tibet, especially considering the border security implications.

ITCO Coordinator Thupten Rinzin further explained the purpose of this awareness program: to educate the younger generation about the deep-rooted ties between the two nations. Using a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation, he touched upon various aspects like the cultural affinity between India and Tibet, facts about an independent Tibet, the unfortunate Chinese occupation, and the significance of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

The day wasn’t just about speeches; it was about engagement. Over 30 students participated in an essay competition spearheaded by the ITCO, with prizes for the top five essays. In total, over 300 students and several media representatives attended this enlightening event, sources from Tibet.net reveal.

To further enhance the educational experience, the Tibet Museum from Dharamshala put up a photo exhibition titled “India-Tibet Relations.” Students and faculty alike thronged to view this visual journey. Moreover, attendees had the opportunity to delve deeper into Tibet‘s history and present situation through books and brochures distributed by the India Tibet Coordination Office.

The event concluded with heartfelt thanks from Tenzin Jorden, reminding everyone of the program’s intent: fostering connections, solidarity, and understanding. With initiatives like these, it’s evident that the bond between India and Tibet is not only historical but also enduring.
