On April 23, 2024, a significant meeting took place at the Mexico Parliament, as reported by Tibet.net. Members of the Mexico Group of Legislators, Friends of Tibet, gathered to discuss strategies and reaffirm their commitment to the rights and self-determination of Tibet.

Despite some members being absent due to reelection campaigns, the meeting was marked by a strong sense of unity and dedication. The group was chaired by Deputy Salvador Caro, who is also the President of the Mexican Parliamentarians Support Group for Tibet.

During the event, Caro welcomed notable attendees such as Deputy Chapman Moreno Manuel, Diputada Ma Teresa Rosaura Ochoa Mejía, Diputada Lidia García Anaya, and Tony Karam, President of Casa Tibet Mexico. Also present were influential figures like Geshe Sherap Choephel from the Mexico Loseling Centre and Yungdrung Lodoe from the Ligmincha Centre Mexico, among others.

The meeting began with Caro summarizing the group’s activities from August 8, 2022, to April 23, 2024. He highlighted the collective efforts to champion Tibet‘s rights. “Our dedication remains unwavering,” he stated, emphasizing the group’s continued advocacy, as per Tibet.net.

Representative Jigme Tsering from the Office of Tibet, Brazil, shared insights into the current situation in Tibet. He expressed gratitude for the ongoing support and optimism for future collaboration. He emphasized the need for continued support, especially concerning issues like the recognition of His Holiness’s reincarnation by Beijing.

Karam spoke about the critical nature of their endeavors, touching on topics like religious freedom, the climate crisis in Tibet, and the impact of river diversion and dam construction. He reaffirmed their solidarity with the Tibetan cause, underscoring the global importance of these issues.

The event concluded with the exchange of traditional white scarves (khatags), symbolizing unity and solidarity. Attendees then had the opportunity to observe an ongoing Parliament session, which provided further insight into the legislative process and future advocacy efforts.
