Antwerp, Belgium – In a heartwarming celebration of Tibetan culture and community spirit, Sherab Nangje Weekend Language School hosted a successful fundraising cultural event on Christmas Eve in Antwerp. The event drew distinguished guests, including Secretary Thrinley Wangdue from the Office of Tibet, Brussels, and Palden Tsering, the President of the Tibetan Community, along with representatives from various Tibetan associations in Belgium.

The chief guest, Secretary Thrinley Wangdue, emphasized the visionary initiative of His Holiness in establishing separate schools for Tibetans worldwide, aimed at preserving the rich tapestry of Tibetan religion, culture, and language. Wangdue commended the dedication of staff, teachers, and parents of Tibetan weekend schools abroad for their invaluable contributions. He underscored the vital role these weekend schools play in sustaining and promoting Tibetan language and culture within diasporic communities. Wangdue urged the younger generation to embrace the responsibility of carrying forward the legacy of their elders.

Secretary Thrinley Wangdue also took the opportunity to inform the public about the recent resolution on Tibet by the European Union. This resolution sheds light on the pressing issues faced by Tibetans within Tibet, bringing global attention to their challenges.

Sonam Tsering, the newly elected director of Sherab Nangchey School, expressed gratitude to the attendees for their participation and generous donations. He highlighted the significance of organizing such fundraising cultural events to support the school’s daily activities.

President Palden Tsering reiterated his commitment to supporting Sherab Nangje Weekend Language School and Jamyang Lophel Sunday School. Additionally, he appealed to the public for financial assistance in realizing his vision of acquiring the Tibetan Community Hall in Belgium.

Bawa Dorjee, Cultural Secretary of the Tibetan Community Association, passionately appealed to the gathered Tibetans for unity in preserving their unique identity, culture, and language to contribute to the restoration of freedom inside Tibet.

The day-long fundraising cultural event kicked off at 10 am and continued until midnight. The morning session featured various fundraising games and the sale of traditional Tibetan foods, creating a festive atmosphere.

As the evening unfolded, the event dazzled attendees with a spectacular performance of Tashi Sholpa by senior students of Sherab Nangje, led by artist Gen Norbu Tsering. Cultural dances performed by students, parents, and staff members added to the vibrancy of the evening. Mr. Norbu Tsering, the weekend school’s artist teacher, also captivated the audience with solo performances, providing entertainment and celebrating the rich Tibetan heritage.

The successful event not only showcased the cultural richness of the Tibetan community but also highlighted the unwavering commitment to preserving their identity and supporting educational initiatives. Sherab Nangje Weekend Language School’s dedication to its mission received resounding support from the community, ensuring a brighter future for Tibetan culture in Belgium.
