In a significant meeting held in Tokyo’s Japan Parliament’s Lower House building, Dr. Tsewang Gyalpo Arya, representing the Dalai Lama for Japan and East Asia, engaged with Ishikawa Akimasa, the General Secretary of the Japan Parliamentary Support Group for Tibet. This dialogue aimed to bolster support for Tibet amidst ongoing challenges.

During their conversation, Dr. Arya highlighted the outcomes of the recent International Tibet Support Groups (ITSG) meeting in Brussels, which unfolded from February 23 to 25. He elaborated on the ITSG’s declaration and its seven key action plans, seeking backing from Japanese parliament members to bring these initiatives to fruition, as reported by Tibet.net.

Key topics discussed included the People’s Republic of China’s (PRC) intrusion into Tibetan religious practices, notably the CCP’s assertions over the selection process of the Dalai Lama. Dr. Arya also shed light on the plight of Tibetan children in Chinese-run boarding schools within Tibet, providing Ishikawa with comprehensive reports on these pressing issues.

Another critical concern raised was the mass arrest of Tibetans in Eastern Tibet’s Kham Dege region, who were peacefully protesting against the forced relocation and demolition of monasteries for dam construction projects.

Ishikawa Akimasa, expressing awareness of the peaceful protests in Kham Dege and condemning the Chinese government’s harsh measures, assured his solidarity with the Tibetan cause. He appreciated Dr. Arya’s briefing on the ITSG meeting outcomes and committed to fully supporting the execution of the outlined plans.

Their discussions also touched upon the celebration of the Dalai Lama’s birthday, alongside educational and rehabilitation efforts for Tibetans living in exile.

This meeting marks a critical step in international efforts to address and support the Tibetan community’s struggles against the backdrop of Chinese policies. Ishikawa Akimasa’s pledge for cooperation underscores the growing global solidarity with Tibet’s pursuit of preservation and autonomy.
