Chief Minister Pema Khandu of Arunachal Pradesh has expressed strong disapproval of China‘s recent action to rename 30 places in the state, describing it as a “gimmick.”

Khandu’s reaction came following the announcement by China, which he emphasized does not change the fact that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India.

This sentiment was shared on social media platform X, where he voiced his pride in being an Indian and a native of Arunachal Pradesh, firmly rejecting China‘s claims.

During a press conference, India‘s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also addressed the issue, reinforcing the stance that Arunachal Pradesh has always been and will continue to be a state of India.

He metaphorically questioned the logic behind changing names, likening it to an ineffective attempt to claim ownership.

China‘s attempt to rename parts of Arunachal Pradesh is part of a broader dispute over the region, which China refers to as south Tibet. This move has been met with international criticism, including from the United States, which recognizes Arunachal Pradesh as Indian territory.

The US Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel emphasized the country’s opposition to any unilateral territorial claims across the Line of Actual Control.
