In a commendable display of academic prowess, Tsewang Tsamchoe, a Tibetan scholar hailing from Dhondhenling Tibetan Settlement, Kollegal, has won three prestigious gold medals in MSc Genetics at India’s renowned University of Mysore. These achievements have not only etched her name in the annals of the university but have also showcased the indomitable spirit of Tibetan students in India.
The University of Mysore celebrated its 103rd annual convocation on October 18, 2023, where Tsamchoe was honored for her outstanding performance. As reported by Tibet.net, these medals commemorate the contributions of eminent professors from the Genetics Department, including Prof. N.B. Ramachandra, Prof. H.A. Ranganath, and Dr. S.N. Hedge.
Reflecting on her journey, Tsewang said, “As a refugee, I have always risen above adversity, recognising the invaluable educational opportunities available to us without hindrance.” Further, she underscored the importance of dedication, persistence, and a strong thirst for knowledge. Quoting her words from the Tibet.net report, she stressed, “It’s crucial to maintain a burning passion for learning, unwavering self-confidence, and the resolve to never give up.”

Her educational journey is a testament to her perseverance. Starting her schooling at Sambhota Tibetan School Kollegal, she climbed the academic ladder to the University of Mysore’s Department of Genetics and Genomics, with support from the TSSR and Aide à l’Enfance Tibétaine (AET), France.
Crediting her accomplishments to a combination of hard work, passion, and a supportive network, Tsamchoe expressed her deep appreciation, stating, “I also want to express my deep appreciation to my hardworking parents…and our Genetics Department teachers, who have displayed remarkable patience in addressing my doubts.”
